One of my favorite things about blogging is helping people find gluten free dining options in Michigan. While Find Me Gluten Free is handy, there’s nothing quite like being able to talk to someone who actually lives in a state. With this post, I hope to help you find a local experts across the US who are willing to answer your questions!
Now, there are some states that are big and have LOTS of gluten free bloggers. States like California or Texas, or cities like Chicago. If I featured them all, this post would be TOO long. Therefore, I’m asking each blogger to share who they also follow. Why? Because one person can’t possibly know it all! By the end, you’ll have a vast network of experts you can follow.
What Information You’ll Find Here
I will be asking each gluten free blogger the same basic questions:
- Where do you live?
- Why do you eat gluten free?
- What are your favorite restaurants?
- What are your favorite dedicated gluten free bakeries?
- What fun things should I do in your state?
- Who else in your state do you recommend following on social media?
Their Expertise Does Not Negate Your Due Diligence
When it comes to restaurants, please remember that practices can change. My gluten free blogger friends are giving recommendations at the time this was published in 2022. Before dining, ALWAYS ask questions pertaining to gluten free food preparation.

On Go Gluten Freely, you’ll find support for living a full life, while gluten-free. I started our gluten-free journey passionate about making sure my daughter didn’t miss out on anything because of celiac disease. Go Gluten Freely is a reflection of our life. What are Your Three Favorite Restaurants in San Diego?
Nectarine Grove: This popular restaurants earns a stop on every trip I take to San Diego. The dedicated gluten-free menu is extensive from chicken & waffles to steak bowls.
El Tianguis: Most of the guests at El Tianguis have no idea that everything is gluten-free. The taquitos are delicious, and it’s a treat to be able to enjoy safe chips & salsa.
Fresh Brothers: This Southern California pizza chain has a location in Carmel Valley. The gluten-free protocols are stellar: gluten-free crusts brought in from the outside, separate containers for toppings, separate pans, and a gluten-free label on the box to let you know the protocols were followed. It feels so normal to be able to order delivery pizza.
What Are Your Favorite Dedicated Gluten Free Bakeries in San Diego?
Starry Lane Bakery: This bakery is popular with the gluten-free community for good reason. I highly recommend the pretzel rolls and lavender lemon cupcakes, and especially the fudge brownie.
Kula Ice Cream: A vegan ice cream shop that is also dedicated gluten-free. It has gluten-free ice cream cones and gluten-free ice cream cakes!
Chani’s Donuts: are gluten-free, as well as vegan and free of the top 9 allergens, if you need to accomodate multiple dietary restrictions. These are real, fried donuts.

The beach, of course! Admittedly, we pay a lot for the weather, so it’s worth getting outside to enjoy it. I recommend Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, Coronado Beach, and La Jolla Shores. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a beautiful place to hike with an ocean view. If you have little ones, Legoland is a gluten-free haven. You don’t have to bring your own food, because the whole resort has gluten-free down. (Read my blog post for more info.) Plus, the hotels are the most little-kid-friendly places we’ve ever stayed.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
My oldest, Landon, has Celiac Disease. He was diagnosed eight years ago, at the age of 2. My middle son, Finn, most likely has Celiac Disease as well. He carries the gene and shows similar signs my oldest did. We have not been able to get him tested because we never have gluten in our house. My youngest, Daisy, has never had gluten because we never have it in our house. We have not seen if she has the gene yet, but we have just decided to not eat gluten as a family.
Along with my kids, Celiac Disease runs on both sides of our family. My mom and brothers have it along with my father-in-law, sister-in-law and niece.
I am here to help people create delicious gluten-free recipes and find gluten-free options that show this diagnosis can be delicious and does not have to be a curse!

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
About 10 years ago, I had severe eczema. Seeking an answer beyond steroid creams, I consulted with a naturopath. She suggested that I remove gluten and dairy from my diet, and it worked. It took a full year for my skin to clear, but it did, and I’ve been gluten free ever since.
Exactly one year ago, after experiencing similar skin issues, I discovered that I have developed an egg allergy as well. I started my website in an effort to connect people like myself with Gluten Free options in Connecticut. It was very well received, and I soon expanded to the rest of New England. The website now has a dining directory, features, reviews, city guides, and more. And we do expos. I love what I do!

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
I eat gluten free due to Celiac Disease. You’ll find gluten free recipes on my site. In addiion, I host gluten free cooking classes.
What are Your Three Favorite Restaurants in Hawaii?
Young’s Fish Market – This is a local Hawaiian restaurant where 90% of the things on their menu are gluten free. The top gluten free dishes I would recommend are pork lau lau, kalua pig, lomi salmon, poi, Okinawan sweet potato, kulolo, and spicy ahi poke. It’s gluten free and a Hawaii favorite so this is a must-try.
Maile’s Thai Restaurant – The owner of this restaurant is gluten free and the restaurant staff is very knowledgable about gluten allergies. Luckily, a huge majority of the menu is gluten free, and the cooks can make just about any dish gluten free by using a Thai soy sauce without wheat in it. Very highly recommend!
Sasabune Sushi – When I think of Hawaii, all I want to eat is fish.
What’s Your Favorite Dedicated Gluten Free Bakery in Hawaii?
Pu’uwai Aloha Bakery (Only dedicated GF Bakery on O’ahu)
What are Your Favorite Attractions/ Things to Do In Hawaii?
Beach – This one is a no brainer. Most people come to Hawaii to enjoy the warm beaches. All we ask is to clean up the beach and leave it better than you found it!
Hikes – Hawaii is known for its beaches, but many locals also enjoy taking some time away to hike in the forests and mountains! Be sure to do your research as many popular hikes are actually on private land and those should be avoided.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
My son has a wheat allergy and my husband has a gluten intolerance. My son also has severe food allergies to: dairy, peanut, tree nuts and goats milk. Most of the recipes on my site are free from the top 9 allergens. However, my son recently passed an oral food challenge to eggs and beef. Therefore newer recipes may contain egg.
I also do Allergy Mom videos for Allergic Living.
What are Your Three Favorite Restaurants in Idaho?
Honestly–there’s not many that we trust for how many allergens we have. If we do eat out, it’s national chains like: Chick-Fil-A, Costa Vida, Culver’s or Red Robin. I have heard that Smitty’s in Idaho Falls has really good gluten-free pancakes from my Celiac friend. However we haven’t been able to try it since my son can’t have the dairy in it.
There’s a bar in Boise Idaho called Water Bear Bar, where all of the snacks are made in a gluten free environment.
What’s Your Favorite Dedicated Gluten Free Bakery in Idaho?
Don’t know of one, sadly.
After some searching, Margaret discovered this new gluten free bakery, The Guardian Bakeshop. Other bakers I found don’t have store fronts. They are either sell wholesale to stores, like Cloverstone, or they are cottage law businesses that bake out of their home, such as Simply Sweet or 3 Peas Bakery. (Both will allow you to order from them directly online.)

MICHIGAN (Travel, not food)
Jackie Kanyolo, author for From Michigan with Love Website | Instagram | Facebook
Where Do You Live? Grand Haven, MI
What inspired you to start a blog about traveling in Michigan? What kind of content will people find on your website and social media channels?
Growing up, my family and I never traveled in-state so I was of the opinion that Michigan is ‘boring’ and moved away for a decade after high school. After my husband and I moved from Kenya back to my hometown in West Michigan, he inspired us to get out and travel more to get acquainted with our ‘new’ home.
This completely opened my eyes to all the hidden gems in Michigan I totally overlooked during the first couple decades of my life. All our weekend adventures started to inspire my coworkers to also take their families on local adventures. They encouraged me to create a blog to document our travels so others can copy. Once I started to do that, I also got involved in social media and developed a following showcasing my family’s adventures throughout Michigan.
On my website I create day trip and getaway itineraries to destinations throughout Michigan others can follow. These are manageable guides so people can realistically see what you can achieve within a day or weekend. Then, on social media, I focus on hidden, underrated and unique gems throughout Michigan, which include everything from towns to road trips, attractions to restaurants, and everything in between.
Top 3 Michigan Hidden Gems One Should Visit:
Drummond Island, Road Trip the River Road Scenic Byway stopping at all the scenic overlooks, Bear Cave in Buchanan
Favorite Kid Friendly Attraction(s):
Mt Pleasant Children’s Museum, Air Zoo in Portage, Eden Springs Park Train Rides in Benton Harbor, Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, Sloan Museum in Flint, Nelis’ Dutch Village in Holland, Legacy Stables in Caledonia
Best Hotel/Lodging for a Romantic Getaway: Lost Woods Farm in Boyne Falls

It’s fun and interesting to see what goes on up in a completely different area of Michigan.

I went gluten free because my primary care doc strongly suggested it after being diagnosed as hypothyroid. Since then, a deeper dig confirmed is is Hashimoto’s, not just straight hypothyroid. For that particular autoimmune disease, the body produces antibodies that attack the thyroid. It appears that gluten can trigger an attack/flare up.
Many of my food posts on the blog are not strictly gluten-free as I feature things made for the rest of my family, too. I am going through older posts to incorporate how to make them gluten free when I know it will be an easy conversion. I have a smaller site (lifebeyondkids.com) where I have typically shared just gluten-free recipes as it was started only a year before I went gluten free.

In order to feel my best (aka– get out of bed), I’ve been eating gluten and dairy free for over 15 years! After being plagued for years with bloating, stomach pains, constant sickness (and an assortment of other health problems), we narrowed down gluten and dairy as the culprit.
Then after my children where old enough to enjoy solids, we quickly realized they, too, would be eating gluten and dairy free. Fast forward 10 years, and it seemed fitting to share our families favorite recipes on our website. You can also find our family favorite in my new E cookbook.

Where Do You Live? Short Hills, NJ
Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your social media?
We eat gluten free since Rayna and Hallie were diagnosed with celiac disease in 2014. Our blog is a combination of advocacy, awareness and covering our own food creations including how we have adjusted favorite family recipes especially during the Jewish holidays.
For us, it is a family affair. Even though Lori and Adam do not have celiac disease, they have kept a dedicated gluten-free home so their daughters can eat safely 100% of the time. We love to cook and bake together and share all things gluten-free related close to home in NJ, and when we have a chance to travel. We are endlessly inspired by the energy and delicious recipes from others in the gluten free and celiac community.
In 2019 we published a book called “Everyone’s Got Something: My First Year with Celiac Disease” to help people feel less alone and more confident in navigating this life change. We have been so grateful for the positive response that the book has received over the past few years. Spreading awareness, supporting one another and helping to foster a positive outlook is key to our feed.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/social media?
I have celiac disease, and my husband has EOE (with current suspected food triggers being dairy, gluten, and oats). I like to help busy women and moms make their family favorite recipes gluten-free! I like making easy gluten free dinners, and drool worthy desserts.
What are Your Favorite Restaurants in New Mexico?
Other favorites include Paisano’s, Thai Kitchen (lots of dairy free options!), and Whispering Bean Coffee. Also El Pinto and Poki Poki. For more recommendations, visit my post of the Best Gluten Free Dining Options in Albuquerque.
Find Me Gluten Free shows that Aijaco Columbian Bistro is a 100% gluten free, but I don’t see any mention of that on their website or social media. Sweetwater Harvest Kitchen in Santa Fe is 100% gf too.)
What Are Your Favorite Dedicated Gluten Free Bakeries in New Mexico?
We love Planty Sweet, Much Ado About Muffin and Revolution Bakery. Gluten Free Confections has amazing cinnamon rolls, and I love her decorated sugar cookies. She also provides baked goods to some coffee shops, including Ethnosphere Coffee , my personal favorite.
Bakehouse Off the Wheaten Path is a 100% GF Bakery with a storefront and daily hours, you can just drop by. Everything is amazing, my personal favorite are their lavender lemon bars and turtle brownies. Their baguettes are superb! As well as their cinnamon rolls.
Whispering Bean Coffee Shop also makes house made muffins, and they only bake gluten free in their shop. They do serve a few traditional baked goods, but they are baked elsewhere and just on a cake stand, separate from the bakery case that is full of delicious cookies, muffins, and even egg bites. They serve Planty Sweet Mini Bundts too. Some of my favorite muffins are the triple berry almond, pear, and double chocolate espresso.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your website & Instagram account?
I eat gluten free because I’ve been diagnosed with celiac. I found out the gluten was the issue after working with my doctor and trying elimination diets. My Instagram features stories of my life as a flight attendant as well as restaurants I eat at and recipes I create. This includes tips on how to prep meals for travel.
I try to be dairy free as I’m lactose intolerant but I’m not strict about it. I try to avoid peanuts, nightshades and soy. I feel a lot better without them but occasionally I may indulge. I often write about Whole 30 recipes. My Instagram also features my love of hiking stories, and plants.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
We actually have a lot of things going on in our home. My oldest was bit by a tick and developed an allergy to hoofed animals. My youngest is anaphylactic to peanuts, most shelled nuts, dairy and eggs. My daughter is intolerant to gluten and dairy with a mild egg allergy. Then I’m vegan. I just cook for everyone’s needs & my blog caters to all of those.
What are Your Favorite Restaurants in Oklahoma?
We eat mostly from home but….
Red Robin– it’s actually very accommodating with plant-based burgers, gluten free options and great service when handling food allergies.
Hideaway Pizza – super helpful with gluten free options and plant-based alternatives. Also nut free.
Desi Wok– it’s a little Asian/Indian restaurant that I just love. Lots of options but does contain cashews in some sauces (which isn’t an allergy for us ) so Xander (my youngest) usually gets the chicken.
Tulsa is also home to Neff Brewing, a 100% gluten free brewery and restaurant.

Why Do You Eat Gluten Free? What will people find on your blog/ social media?
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2008. My website features a list of restaurants in Wisconsin, with gluten free options. I also share some recipes, and a list of resources. I previously organized get-togethers, but that has been on hold for some time, now.
My blog has been on hiatus since a very difficult pregnancy and then the birth of our amazing daughter, who was born with Spina Bifida. As she enters her school years now, my goal is to turn the blog into a helpful resource for those newly diagnosed to navigate this roller coaster of a gluten free life together!
What are Your Three Favorite Restaurants in Wisconsin?
Bartaco in Madison, Miko Poke in Madison, David Alan Alan’s in Mukwonago, and Screaming Tuna in Milwaukee & Mequon. Also, Wauwautiki in Wauwatosa, is a 100% gluten free restaurant. In addition, make sure to stop at Alt Brew in Madison, which is a 100% gluten free brewery.
Please join our local GF group on FB listed above and follow along on my CITC page for a longer list of faves.

What are Your Favorite Attractions/ Things to Do In Wisconsin?
1. All four seasons! In WI we are blessed with the ability to enjoy the great outdoors year round! Summer on the many lakes and rivers to fish, camp in our beautiful state parks, hike, and kayak. Fall’s amazing colors viewed on scenic routes around the state. Winter wonderland to snowshoe, ice fish, and ski/skate. Spring brings all the greens to our beloved “up north” spots, we have it all! Visit Travel Wisconsin for more activity ideas.
2. The cultural and music festivals at Henry Maier Festival Park on the lakefront.
