My most recent issue was caused by failing to ask about another allergen and compounded by deafening noise of all the patrons in a crowded restaurant on a Friday night.

This is me 100%. I am so uncomfortable grilling waitstaff and tired of impatience showing on their faces, even if they think it’s not. It really destroys the whole meal. I’m tired of being reassured all necessary precautions are being done, only to become sick so I know it’s not.

It ruins the experience if I interrogate and is embarrassing too. I do it but it is not the easy-breezy day out for me as it is for others. I have been glutened at PF Chang’s with their special plate and assurance their wok is used only for GF. Also, why is glutened not a word with spell check? It is a real thing!

Saying “Please tell the kitchen” is really important, because I’ve found that waitstaff don’t always think to tell the cooks, and surely the cooks can make food safer when they know.

Some questions I hadn’t thought of myself. Sometimes it is exhausting to be gluten free, isn’t it?
