Thank you for listening. I am sorry for your loss. I have lost others to suicide, and it definitely takes your breath away. May we not put a timeline on our grief, but allow ourselves the grace to heal on our own terms.

I hear you. Thank you for sharing your story, so bravely and eloquently. I was tearing up at the end. I think it's important to embrace these feelings of loss and sorrow and grief. When I feel that way, my first reaction is to rush through them or put on a fake smile, or like you said, to feel guilty for my own grief. I struggled with this a lot last year after someone close to me committed suicide. What my therapist told me was that my feelings were valid... that I *deserved* to grieve. Those words had a really profound impact on my life. Like you have mentioned in this post, it is easy to compare our loss to the loss of others. But another person's grief does not invalidate our own. Which I know is easier to intellectualize than to internalize... I am still working on that part ;) Anyway, thanks for giving myself and other people the opportunity to share our own stories and struggles with you every day on your blog.

Thank you for sharing your story. Holidays, especially when associated with loss, are the hardest. Our Daniel died right before Christmas, so I always associate making Christmas cookies with his loss. As the years have gone by, i try to do it as a happy reminder of the smiles we share, but it is always bittersweet.
