The Christmas season is full of traditions and treats. This year make a gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house using Schar Honeygrams for a quick and easy craft. Thank you Schar for sponsoring this activity!
The Best Gluten Free Graham Crackers
No matter how old I get, I still LOVE graham crackers. Not only are they delicious, they’re highly versatile. They hold toasted marshmallows and melty chocolate in summer S’mores. They create the perfect base for a cheesecake.
Did you also know that you can use them to make a gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house? For my first time making a gingerbread house from scratch (yes, first time) I chose to use Schar Honeygrams. Perfectly square, they immediately remind me of building blocks! Here in Michigan I can find Schar Honeygrams, and many more Schar products, at my local Meijer stores.
Using Graham Crackers to Make a Gingerbread House
Making a gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. You can build a small square one with four simple walls and peaked roof. You can even make a Christmas train, like the spouse of my friend Amanda did. (Visit her website to see how they made their gluten-free gingerbread houses, and snag her recipe for royal icing too!)
As I know that many classrooms use graham crackers to make a gingerbread house, I choose to turn my gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house into a school! I added a dusting of powdered sugar to simulate freshly fallen snow. (In addition, it covers over any mistakes!)
Gluten Free Candy for Gingerbread House Decorating
I wanted to make my gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house safe for more than just me though. I know the school where my husband teachers requires all rooms to be free of tree nuts and peanuts. So I used candy decorations that were made in peanut-free facilities as well. My two favorite candies for this are Sixlets and Andes Mints.
Sixlets are similar to M&M’s, but are spherical instead of round and flat. Luckily there are many sweets that are free of nuts. Candy canes and Tootsie Rolls also make great decorations for a gluten-free graham cracker gingerbread house as well. (*Note- Schar Honeygrams do not contain peanuts or tree nuts. However, the box does claim they may contain coconut and hazelnut through possible cross-contact.)

Wow, you did a great job for your first gingerbread house! I’ve yet to make one, but using Schar crackers makes it look so much easier!
Love this! I am the one with celiac in my home, but I try to keep gluten out of my home, (hubby and kiddo eat it out of the house.) My kiddo loves to make and build things so I know he’s going to love this and I don’t have to worry about gluten everywhere!
Glad you like it! Actually pondering on working on a regular gingerbread dough and attempting my own cutouts!
